I Tried Dodow To Help Me Sleep…Here’s What Happened

I’m one of those people who lays down to go to sleep and then the wheels start turning.

I’m thinking about everything that needs to get done, everyone I need to respond to, and that book I’ve never gotten around to writing.

So, I go downstairs, work for a little bit, and then pass out on the couch in a super uncomfortable position only to wake up at 6:30…totally unrested and not excited about the day.

I want to sleep better but DON’T want to turn to medication because I have an addictive personality

So when my friend recommended a product called Dodow, I got one. I doubted it would do much but thought I’d try it out to see if it was worth the hype.

Spoiler Alert: It was…and if you struggle with falling asleep, you’ll want to check it out too.

What Is It?

Dodow is a small device you place on your night stand that projects a blue light halo on your ceiling.

It’s actually a metronome that you use to pace your breathing and slow down your heartbeat so you can fall asleep up to 2.5x faster.

How It Works:

I don’t know if you or your kids have ever played piano but the idea behind Dodow is similar to that kind of metronome.

You breathe in as the blue halo grows and breathe out as it shrinks…the goal is to keep a steady pace with your breath to get you into a more calm state.

It’s super simple to use, but let’s talk about the REASON it actually works (which is two fold).

First, by focusing on your breathing, your brain STOPS thinking about everything you have to do tomorrow and keeps your mind “in the moment.”

Second, the act of slowing your breathing to six (6) breaths per minute lowers the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in your blood.

Think about it for a second:

When you breathe in, you are bringing oxygen (O2) into your body. When you exhale you are getting rid of CO2.

By making your exhales LONGER, you get rid of more CO2 which causes the concentration in your blood to go down.

By lowering the CO2 in your blood, your blood vessels constrict which causes a feeling of calmness and sleepiness (which helps you fall asleep faster ).

This is actually something Buddhist monks have done for hundreds of years which is why they can meditate for so long.

But you don’t have to be a Buddhist monk to use Dodow.

All you have to do to use it is:

Put the batteries into the unit

Tap once for an 8 minute breathing cycle or twice for a 20 minute cycle

Match your breathing to the halo

Fall asleep faster than you have in years

***Side Sleeper Tip: If you’re a side sleeper, you can prop Dodow up with a book and have it shine on your wall***

How I Use Dodow In My Life:

As much as I’d love to fall asleep in 8 minutes, I need more time to decompress so I use the 20 minute cycle.

There’s no way you can possibly keep your mind focused for twenty minutes but every time my mind starts to wander, I bring it back to the light and focus on matching my breathing.

I’ve never made it to the full 20 minutes…I’m usually asleep between 12-15 minutes in.

While getting to asleep is great, the BIGGEST benefit I’ve seen is the fact that I STAY ASLEEP longersince using Dodow.

Because I’ve put my body into a state of relaxation, I rarely wake up in the middle of the night in a cold panic thinking about something I forgot to do that day.

I get to sleep FASTER and get BETTER QUALITY sleep…like I did when I was a teenager.

I’m a huge Dodow fan…and I bet if you get one, you will be too.
